NYFW | RUNWAY REVIEW | SPRING/SUMMER 2016 | 3.1 PHILLIP LIM | FUTURISTIC NATURE
So let's start off with the fact that it is so cool that 3.1 Phillip Lim paired up with environmentalist Maya Lin to create the show set. This show set consisted of rough concrete with a few cracks, and sever large mounds of dirt/soil placed in an odd way. This immediately sets the tone that with this collection he wanted to bring awareness back to our most natural roots in which life begins, and I guess in a sense he is plan was to plant a seed. See what I just did there. The official 3.1 Phillip Lim official website displayed the hashtag: #31StopandSmelltheRoses to further reinforce the nature-oriented theme.
Th looks shown were mostly of a natural color palette. There was a lot of Green, soft champagne/gold, black, and white. Despite the nature-inspired colors, the silhouettes were very sophisticated, and some almost gave me a futuristic feel. What I appreciated most about this collection is the juxtaposition of the sharp tailored pieces paired with the soft drapes and floral prints. Overall the collection was a solid one to me, but I cannot say it was the strongest of what has been presented during New York Fashion Week so far, but I highly respect the artistry and the message behind it. What do you think? Chime in the comments below after viewing the show and let's talk about it!
